New 13,000 DWT Multi-Purpose Cargo Carrier “BBC Santiago” Ready For Service

The “BBC Santiago,” a 13,000 DWT multi-purpose cargo carrier recently ordered by Germany’s Briese Group, has completed its final sea trials in China. Built by Taizhou Sanfu Heavy Industry, this vessel will soon enter service under a long-term charter with BBC Chartering for global trading.

Key Features

  • Triple-Deck Design: “BBC Santiago” is part of a 15-vessel series equipped with triple decks, designed specifically for heavy lift and project cargo transport.
  • Cargo Capacity:
    • Two box-shaped cargo holds provide nearly 26,000 cubic meters of capacity over a floor space of approximately 5,000 square meters, when two tween decks are in use.
    • The bridge and crew accommodations are located forward, creating a spacious 2,830 square meters on the weather deck.
  • Cranes and Lift Capacity:
    • Two cranes with a combined lifting capacity of 500 tonnes are positioned portside, allowing unobstructed access to the deck for large cargo handling.
  • Certification and Versatility:
    • Bureau Veritas-certified, the vessel is designed for worldwide trading and can operate with open hatches. Its structure also meets specifications to navigate the St. Lawrence Seaway and Great Lakes, offering flexibility in various global markets.

Deployment Timeline
“BBC Santiago” is expected to join Briese’s fleet by mid-December 2024, enhancing its capabilities for project cargo and heavy-lift operations.
