APM Terminals Suape Launches Fully Electric Terminal

As Reported by APM Terminals, the groundbreaking ceremony for this milestone project took place on November 22 at the Governador Eraldo Gueiros Industrial Port Complex in Pernambuco, Brazil. The event drew prominent attendees, including Silvio Costa Filho, Minister of Ports and Airports, and Raquel Lyra, Governor of Pernambuco.

Strengthening Port of Suape’s Competitiveness

Minister Costa Filho emphasized that the terminal would contribute to a 5% growth in Suape’s throughput this year, aligning with President Lula’s goals to boost employment and income. Governor Lyra highlighted the project’s potential to enhance exports, create jobs, and reinforce Suape’s standing as a leading port in Brazil.

Driving Sustainable Port Operations

The terminal, set to open in 2026, represents a leap in sustainability and efficiency. APM Terminals Americas Managing Director Leo Huisman noted the development would expand global connectivity for Pernambuco, offering importers and exporters greater choice. Suape President Marcio Guiot underscored the advantages of electrified operations, positioning the terminal as a model for environmentally friendly port initiatives in Latin America.

Building for the Future

Daniel Rose, Managing Director of APM Terminals Suape and Pecem, detailed the progress so far, including a 222-day demolition phase and a R$241 million investment in equipment. The upcoming construction phases will focus on quay, yard, and building infrastructure, enabling significant capacity and efficiency improvements.
