Despite a surge in tech investment fueled by the pandemic and a global race for innovation, the shipping industry seems to be lagging behind.
The pandemic forced companies to embrace digitalization and governments pledged to boost scientific research. While this optimism didn’t revolutionize everything, it did lead to significant investment in technology across many industries, particularly in decarbonization with hundreds of funded projects. However, the promised breakthroughs haven’t materialized in shipping.
The lack of a single, unifying innovation might be a challenge, but it also presents a unique opportunity.
