Thoresen Shipping, a Thailand-based dry bulk shipping operator, has started the migration of its fleet to the Sealink NextGen system offered by satcom service provider Marlink. This is part of the company’s wider digital transformation strategy, reports Smart Maritime Network.

Global Operations and Fleet Overview

Operating from Thailand, Thoresen Shipping has offices in Dubai, London, and Singapore, owning a fleet of 24 Supramax and Ultramax bulk carriers deployed across the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, catering to global shipping needs.

Hybrid Network Integration by Marlink

Marlink will offer a hybrid network to Thoresen Shipping, combining VSAT, Starlink LEO connectivity, and additional backup services. The solution will benefit from advanced technology in the form of software-defined application routing (SD-WAN) through Marlink’s XChange network management tool. Furthermore, Endpoint Detection cyber protection will be applied fleet-wide for improved security.

Improved Connectivity for Smooth Operations

With SD-WAN functionality, robust connectivity shall be ensured in support of cloud-based applications and remote operations at sea. The GEO, LEO, and MSS networks are integrated into the system, ensuring reliable communication for critical tasks.

Competitive Edge through Digitalisation

Thoresen Shipping highlighted the strategic importance of this upgrade, stating: “As a fully integrated shipping company and volume carrier, we recognise the competitive advantage that a digitalised operating model can bring to our fleet and our customers.”
