Qatar Navigation (Milaha) has signed a long-term charter agreement with the Asian Spirit Steamship Company (ASSC) for two state-of-the-art container ships, “MV Spirit of Kolkata” and “MV Spirit of Chennai,” reports the Peninsula.

These 1,200 TEU vessels boast significant advantages:

  • Sustainability: They achieve 35% fuel savings and a 40% reduction in CO2 emissions per unit carried, aligning with Milaha’s commitment to environmental responsibility. Hybrid scrubbers further minimize harmful emissions.
  • Enhanced Efficiency: Compared to other ships in this segment, these vessels offer 40% greater actual capacity.

Strengthening Maritime Leadership

The new ships will operate on routes between the Arabian Gulf and the Indian Subcontinent, strengthening Milaha’s position in the feeder segment.

Fahad bin Saad Al Qahtani, Milaha’s CEO, expressed his gratitude to partners like QatarEnergy and QTerminals for their support in this endeavor. He emphasized Milaha’s dedication to fostering a sustainable future and enhancing both Qatari and global feeder segment development.

Clasen Rickmers, from ASSC, sees this partnership as a foundation for long-term collaboration. Milaha, through innovative solutions and strategic partnerships, aims to solidify Qatar’s position as a key player in the global shipping industry.
