  • Innovative Wärtsilä Systems Chosen for 12,500 cbm LNG Bunkering Vessel.

The order follows yet another small-scale LNG new contract by Wärtsilä Gas Solutions as the firm solidifies its leadership within these LNG applications. The company is going to supply its state-of-the-art Cargo Handling and Fuel Gas Supply systems for the construction of a 12,500 cbm LNG bunkering vessel at the Chinese Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering shipyard. Built for global energy leader Vitol, Wärtsilä has taken the order booking for the same in Q4 of the year 2024, reports Wärtsilä.

Comprehensive System Expertise Wins the Order

Comprehensive system ability was the prime reason for awarding this contract to Wärtsilä, which has in its bag of system offerings:

  1. Boil-Off Gas (BOG) Management Systems
  2. Integrated Fuel Supply Systems
  3. Custody Transfer Systems
  4. Bunkering Transfer Systems

For this particular project, small-scale LNG applications experience had been acquired by Wärtsilä in substantial amounts with a proven history.

Growing Demand for LNG Solutions

The increasing adoption of LNG as a marine fuel reflects the maritime industry’s push toward sustainability. Wärtsilä’s leadership in this segment aligns with market trends, as highlighted by Richie Zhu, Sales Manager for Wärtsilä Gas Solutions, China:

“LNG is today an important marine fuel and is rapidly becoming the preferred choice for owners and operators seeking more sustainable fuel options. The market for LNG bunkering vessels is increasing in line with this trend, and we have established a leading position in supplying modern and reliable systems that optimise overall cargo handling efficiency for such vessels.”

Long-Standing Partnership with Nantong CIMC

Wärtsilä has had a long-standing relationship with Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering. The company has supplied cargo handling systems for many LNG, LPG, ethane/ethylene, and multi-gas carriers built at the yard over the years.

This latest collaboration further strengthens the relationship and demonstrates Wärtsilä’s commitment to advancing modern LNG solutions for the global shipping industry.
