KR’s AI-Powered CBM Initiative Redefines Ship Maintenance

13

  • Korean Register (KR), Sinokor Merchant Marine, and HD Hyundai Marine Solution (HD HMS) are collaborating to integrate AI-driven condition-based maintenance (CBM) technology for ship engines and generators.
  • The project involves deploying advanced CBM systems on two Sinokor container ships, leveraging KR’s AI expertise, Sinokor’s maintenance data, and HD HMS’s operational data to enhance vessel reliability and efficiency.
  • KR aims to expand CBM applications to other ship systems like low-flashpoint fuel supply and batteries.

KR, Sinokor Merchant Marine, and HD Hyundai Marine Solution are partnering to revolutionize ship maintenance through AI-powered condition-based maintenance (CBM) systems, enabling smarter, more cost-effective maritime operations, reports Sea News.

Revolutionizing Maritime Maintenance with AI

Korean Register, in partnership with Sinokor Merchant Marine and HD HMS, is introducing AI-enhanced CBM technology to ship maintenance.

It is to move from scheduled upkeep to real-time, need-based interventions.

CBM Systems Deployed on Sinokor Container Ships

Two Sinokor vessels, a 1,800 TEU and 8,000 TEU ship, will pilot the advanced CBM systems.

This approach reduces operational costs, boosts reliability, and sets the stage for digitalized and autonomous shipping.

KR’s Expertise in AI-Powered Maintenance

Since 2017, KR has been developing AI models and big data analytics for ship machinery fault diagnosis.

Using Machine Learning Operations (MLOps), KR ensures smooth deployment and lifecycle management of these technologies.

Expanding CBM Beyond Engines

KR plans to extend CBM applications to systems like fuel supply and batteries, laying the groundwork for smarter and more sustainable shipping practices.
