New Deal Aims to Boost Connectivity for Crew and Passengers

Orbyt Global and Telenor Maritime have partnered with Attica Group to improve connectivity across its fleet, focusing on the needs of both passengers and crew, reads an official release.

Five-Year Partnership with Option for Extension to Provide End-to-End Connectivity Solutions

The collaboration spans Superfast Ferries, Blue Star Ferries, ANEK Lines, and Hellenic Seaways. This partnership will introduce a hybrid connectivity platform combining high-speed internet, mobile services, and Wi-Fi. The agreement, spanning five years with an optional extension, includes a €7 million investment in digital infrastructure upgrades.

Reliable internet access is essential for our crew to stay in touch with their families and access entertainment during their time off. By upgrading our digital infrastructure, we aim to improve the onboard experience for both passengers and crew while supporting operational efficiency,” said Panos Dikaios, CEO of Attica Group.

The focus on connectivity for crew members reflects a broader commitment to improving their well-being and enabling them to stay connected while at sea. In the 2024 SEAFiT Crew Survey internet connectivity emerged as the most pressing need for seafarers. While 91% of respondents emphasized its importance, many highlighted ongoing issues with cost, speed, and reliability.

Orbyt Global will provide low-latency LEO satellite connectivity through Starlink, while Telenor Maritime’s platform will combine LEO and GEO satellite networks.

The installation and operation of the connectivity systems will be managed collaboratively by Orbyt Global and Telenor Maritime. With local support and technical expertise, the integration process is designed to be efficient and responsive.
