The Port of Rotterdam Authority (PoR) is set to expand the Container Exchange Route (CER), enhancing connectivity and infrastructure in the Maasvlakte region. This marks a significant advancement in optimizing container transport efficiency, safety, and sustainability.

Key Developments in 2025

  1. New Connections with Main Gates
    • Distripark Maasvlakte:
      • Access for at least 12 logistics service providers, including Nippon Express, NeeleVat, AWL, LT Foods, Odin, Broekman Logistics, and Thermotraffic.
    • ECT Delta and Hutchison Ports Delta II Terminals:
      • Connection via a main gate on Coloradoweg.
  2. Phased Implementation
    • Construction begins in early 2025.
    • Completion is anticipated by the end of 2025.

Infrastructure Investments

  • Fibre Optic and Electrical Systems:
    • Supports equipment like speed gates and cameras.
    • Ensures efficient and reliable operation.
    • Enhances long-term integrity and scalability of the CER.

CER Performance Since Launch

  • Operational since late 2023, with major participants:
    • RWG and ECT Delta container terminals.
    • QTerminals Kramer depots and Customs’ State Inspection Terminal (RIT).
  • Over 20,000 trips were completed in the first year, showcasing significant utility for container transport.
