Strategic Acquisition
Navantia’s acquisition of Harland & Wolff will ensure the successful delivery of three Fleet Solid Support (FSS) ships for the UK Ministry of Defence. These ships are crucial for supporting the Royal Navy.
By integrating Harland & Wolff’s shipyards into its operations, Navantia aims to streamline the construction process and minimize potential risks, ensuring timely delivery of the FSS ships.
Navantia emphasizes that this deal will benefit the UK by preserving 1,000 jobs and enhancing its shipbuilding and offshore wind energy capabilities.
UK Defence Secretary John Healey highlighted the significance of this agreement, stating that it safeguards vital defense manufacturing within the UK and secures skilled jobs at historic shipyards across the nation. “It strengthens our sovereign capability to support Royal Navy operations worldwide, while building the industrial partnerships that will drive growth.
“The deal represents a major investment into the UK’s industrial base from Navantia UK and will provide opportunities for future naval work at Harland & Wolff’s shipyards across the country, which could create new jobs and give a boost to the UK’s coastal communities nationwide.” he said.
