- Largest Load-Out Jetty in MEA Boosts Drydocks World’s Capabilities.
- Drydocks World Expands Fabrication Capacity by 40% with South Yard.
- Pioneering Sustainability: South Yard Powered Entirely by Clean Energy.
Drydocks World has officially launched the South Yard expansion, a 75,000 sqm state-of-the-art facility designed to take its capabilities to new heights in the marine and offshore wind energy sectors. The multi-million-dollar project enhances the company’s ability to deliver advanced solutions for global energy transition projects, while also displaying leadership in innovation and sustainability, reports WAM.
Capacity and Infrastructure Enhanced
The South Yard expansion increases Drydocks World’s fabrication capacity by 40% and yard capacity by 25%. Significant in this enhancement will empower the company to simultaneously host several projects under construction. The flagship piece of the facility remains the largest load-out jetty in the Middle East and Africa, which can accommodate structures of a maximum weight of up to 37,000 tons. This cutting-edge structure has enabled Drydocks World to cater to growth in global demand regarding renewable energy sources and complex offshore solutions.
Technological Advancements
The South Yard is fitted with the latest fabrication technology which includes advanced robotic profile-cutting machines, automated Computer Numerical Control (CNC) systems, and heavy-duty rolling machines. It enables the facility to accept highly complex and large industrial projects with higher precision and efficiency. By 2026, the yard’s capacity will be heightened by the installation of a 5,000-tonne Sheerleg Floating Crane, which will provide the yard with increased strength in handling massive structures.
Delivering complex projects
The South Yard is purpose-built to handle a variety of industrial projects, including the conversion of Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessels, the construction of topsides for offshore platforms, and the development of High-Voltage Alternating Current (HVAC) and High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) converter platforms for offshore wind energy markets. With its advanced infrastructure and design, the facility is poised to meet the demands of the rapidly evolving renewable energy sector.
A Commitment to Sustainability
The South Yard is powered entirely by clean energy from the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. This reduces the carbon footprint of the facility by a great deal while adhering to international environmental standards. Sustainable practices are embedded throughout its operations, aligning with Drydocks World’s mission to support the global shift to green energy and demonstrate environmental responsibility.
Leadership Vision
Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of DP World, highlighted the strategic importance of the South Yard expansion, stating, “The South Yard expansion is a testament to Drydocks World’s commitment to innovation and sustainable growth. It positions us as leaders in renewable energy infrastructure while setting new standards in operational excellence.”
Captain Rado Antolovic, CEO of Drydocks World, emphasized the transformative impact of the facility, saying, “The South Yard represents a transformative step for Drydocks World. It enhances our ability to execute multiple complex global projects while prioritizing smarter logistics, efficient execution, and high HSSE standards. This expansion is more than additional capacity—it’s a statement of our commitment to innovation and the energy transition.”
