At about 7.30 p.m. on June 8, a merchant ship MV Infinity One, approximately 20 NM off Goa coast, reported water ingress and continuous listing to starboard (right hand) side. The vessel had reported that the list is increasing despite ship’s dewatering efforts.
Indian Naval Ship Trikand from Western Naval Command was in the vicinity and had responded immediately by sending team of four personnel including two officers and high speed dewatering pump. Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre was also informed.
The 83 meter long vessel with 14 Indian crew members (including Master) was transiting from Kandla port in Gujarat and proceeding to Karwar, Karnataka.
Coast Guard Ship Amal and tug from Goa was also dispatched for assistance and another Naval ship INS Kondul was placed on standby. MV Infinity One was thereafter anchored and additional pumps were readied for immediate delivery.
Dewatering by pumps from INS Trikand and CGS Amal continued their operations on Thursday to keep the vessel safe. Presently, MV Infinity One continues to list and is proceeding to Karwar (with INS Trikand escorting her) at slow speeds. Vessel is expected to enter harbour later in the day.
