On December 28, 2024, Excelerate Energy successfully executed its 2,500th commercial ship-to-ship (STS) LNG operation onboard the floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) Excellence in Bangladesh. This milestone operation involved the delivery of LNG cargo from Maran Gas Maritime’s LNG carrier, Maran Gas Asclepius, to the Moheshkhali floating LNG (MLNG) terminal located offshore Moheshkhali Island in the Bay of Bengal, reports Offshore Energy.
A Testament to Safety, Reliability, and Innovation
“This milestone is a testament to our unwavering commitment to safety, reliability, and innovation in the LNG industry. It is not just a number. It symbolizes years of relentless effort, continuous improvement, and the highest standards of operational excellence,” said David Liner, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Excelerate Energy.
Since pioneering the commercial ship-to-ship transfer of LNG in 2007, Excelerate has consistently shaped the industry with safe, reliable energy delivery to those in need. Liner extended his gratitude, saying, “We extend our deepest gratitude to our partners, clients, and every member of the Excelerate Energy team for making this accomplishment possible.”
MLNG Terminal: Bangladesh’s First LNG Import Facility
Bangladesh’s first LNG import facility was the MLNG terminal that was commissioned in 2018. It can handle up to 600 million standard cubic feet of gas a day. This, along with Excelerate’s second FSRU in Bangladesh, accounts for about 25% of Bangladesh’s natural gas supply.
Past Achievement
The other milestone the company achieved was the completion of its 2,000th commercial STS LNG operation in the MLNG terminal in Bangladesh, which clearly marked its growing presence and capability within the region during 2021.
New Long-Term Agreement with QatarEnergy
Beginning in 2024, Excelerate agreed to a long-term deal with QatarEnergy. The company is a major global LNG player, and under this agreement, it will buy as much as 1 million tons per annum of LNG. It will start in January 2026, and for 15 years, the QatarEnergy will supply LNG to the FSRUs in Bangladesh.
This partnership further reinforces Excelerate’s commitment to deliver reliable and secure energy to Bangladesh, further cementing its position in the LNG market.
