The International Association of Dry Cargo Shipowners (INTERCARGO) has unveiled key initiatives to address the evolving demands of its global membership. A recent Quality Panel meeting with RightShip on November 25, 2024, marked significant progress in resolving critical issues within the bulk carrier sector. This collaboration, as highlighted by INTERCARGO, underscores a shared commitment to improving operational standards, safety, and transparency across the maritime industry.

Enhanced Collaboration with RightShip

The dialogue with RightShip reflects INTERCARGO’s proactive approach to addressing member-raised concerns and implementing practical solutions. The organizations have scheduled their next meeting for the first quarter of 2025, emphasizing the enduring nature of this collaboration.

Restructuring the Quality Panel

To accommodate its international membership, INTERCARGO will restructure its Quality Panel from January 2025. The new framework includes two regional divisions:

  • The Western division, chaired by Metaxia Psalti of Neda Maritime, with Tasos Karlis of Virono as Vice-Chair.
  • The Eastern division, led by Debashis Sen of Swire Bulk as Chair, supported by Capt. Uttam Kumar Jaiswal of Pacific Basin as Vice-Chair.

Commitment to Sector Partnerships and Institutional Trust

Capt. Uttam Kumar Jaiswal, Vice-Chairman of INTERCARGO, emphasized the significance of these changes:
“The organisation continues to welcome new members, encouraging shipowners, operators, and managers to participate and contribute to the organisation’s meetings, discussions, working panels and groups.”

INTERCARGO also reaffirmed its trust in established international regulatory bodies and classification societies, acknowledging their crucial role in maintaining equitable governance and advancing global maritime standards.

INTERCARGO remains steadfast in its dedication to addressing the bulk carrier sector’s challenges while prioritizing quality, safety, and environmental sustainability.
