The Port of Long Beach moved 9,649,724 TEUs in 2024, marking a 20.3% increase from 2023 and surpassing its previous record set in 2021. Imports rose 24.3%, while exports declined by 5.9%. December 2024 was the most active month, with 861,006 TEUs handled, a 21.3% year-over-year increase.
Environmental Leadership Through the Green Port Policy
Since adopting the Green Port Policy in 2005, the Port has achieved significant air quality improvements, including a 92% reduction in diesel emissions and a 98% cut in sulfur oxides. CEO Mario Cordero highlighted the Port’s dual success in environmental sustainability and commercial competitiveness during the State of the Port address.
Innovative Sustainability Projects
The Port continued advancing its green initiatives in 2024:
- The Pier B On-Dock Rail Facility began construction to enhance cargo movement and air quality.
- Toyota Motor North America partnered with the Port to launch the Tri-gen system, generating renewable hydrogen, electricity, and water.
- Plans for Pier Wind, a terminal for assembling offshore wind turbines, progressed, promising significant economic and clean-energy benefits.
