Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of the China State Shipbuilding Corporation, has achieved a significant milestone with the naming of the 174,000 m³ LNG carrier “LIMAIL” (H1793A) at its Changxing Phase II shipyard. Delivered four months ahead of schedule, this marks the fourth vessel delivered under QatarEnergy’s historic LNG fleet expansion program and the first vessel to be named in 2025.

Achievements in LNG Carrier Production

Hudong-Zhonghua has demonstrated remarkable efficiency improvements in its construction cycles:

  • The second vessel was completed 76 days faster than the first.
  • The third vessel was 20 days faster than the second.
  • The fourth vessel, “LIMAIL,” achieved a construction cycle 34 days shorter than the third.

Over just four months and five days, the company has successfully delivered four high-quality LNG carriers, emphasizing its ability to meet global demand efficiently.

Technical and Environmental Excellence

Designed to meet the highest standards set by QatarEnergy, “LIMAIL” integrates advanced technologies for environmental performance and efficiency:

  • Specifications: 299 meters long, 46.4 meters wide, and 26.25 meters deep.
  • Features the latest double stern-fin design for enhanced hydrodynamics.
  • Equipped with low-carbon technologies and advanced digital systems.
  • Classified by American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and China Classification Society (CCS).

Plans for 2025: Scaling LNG Production

Hudong-Zhonghua has ambitious plans for 2025, aiming to deliver over 10 large-scale LNG carriers throughout the year. To meet these goals, the company has:

  • Expanded its operations to include two large factories and three shipyards.
  • Begun simultaneous construction of 19 LNG carriers.
  • Adopted batch, beat, and standardized production techniques to optimize efficiency.

Strategic Significance

These advancements position Hudong-Zhonghua as a leader in the global LNG carrier market, contributing to China’s growing role in energy infrastructure. The delivery of vessels like “LIMAIL” underpins QatarEnergy’s fleet expansion program, aligning with global efforts toward more sustainable and efficient energy transport.

The company’s innovative production methods and commitment to excellence set a benchmark for the maritime industry and underscore its pivotal role in advancing China’s LNG production capacity to new heights.
