Cargo vessel suffers leak

According to Indonesian Authorities, the incident prompted a swift rescue operation that ensured the safety of all 18 crew members on board. The vessel began taking on water at approximately 06:00 LT. The incident began when KM. Palung Mas received information from KM. Tanto Luas via VHF Ch. 16 that the cargo vessel was taking on water.

The captain of the cargo vessel called KM. Palung Mas for assistance, reporting leakage in the keel, port side, and starboard side, with the ship listing 25° to port. The duty officer reported to the captain and took command to proceed to the coordinates provided by the captain of the vessel.

KM. Palung Mas anchored 2.5 cables away from the cargo vessel but, due to unfavorable weather conditions hindering the rescue process, raised anchor and coordinated with the captain of the cargo vessel to have the crew disembark using liferafts. The decision was made to have the crew of the cargo vessel disembark into liferafts for safety.

By 08:45 LT, all crew members, including the captain, had safely boarded the liferafts and were transferred to KM. Palung Mas, which then transported the survivors to Teluk Lamong Port. The rescue effort concluded without any casualties, with the survivors arriving safely at the port at approximately 18:00 WIB.

Preliminary reports confirmed no casualties, but investigations are ongoing to assess the extent of marine pollution and material losses caused by the incident.

The crew of the cargo vessel has been handed over to the vessel’s company for further assistance, while authorities continue to monitor the situation and evaluate preventive measures to avoid similar incidents.
