Bretagne was the last 9/11 responder dog alive, but she was also so much more. The golden retriever also responded to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and worked with autistic children. The golden retriever was 17. Old age had slowed her down, and it was time to put her to sleep. She was finally euthanized after receiving a hero’s farewell.
