STS10, a new container terminal of the Port of Santos, has been announced to be auctioned between October and November this year by the Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho. This project is expected to cost about R$ 4.5 billion and aims to expand the container handling capacity at the port, reports Datamar News.
Project Overview
The model approved by the government involves four berths. This would enable the container handling capacity to be increased by 50%. Presently, the Port of Santos annually handles around 6 million TEUs, which is likely to go up to 9 million TEUs when the new terminal comes into effect.
Investments and Projections
In 2024, the National Secretariat of Ports carried out eight auctions, raising R$ 3.74 billion in investments. For the last two years of the current period, the ministry will hold 37 more auctions of port areas. Private sector investment in the port sector is estimated to reach R$ 18 billion this year against R$ 10.6 billion last year.

- MAC16 at Port of Maceió (AL)
- MCP03 at Port of Santana (AP)
- ITG02 in Itaguaí (RJ)
- REC08, 09, and 10 in Recife (PE)
- RDJ06 in Rio de Janeiro (RJ)
- RIG10 at Port of Rio Grande (RS)
