The Neoliner Origin has been officially launched at RMK Marine, marking a breakthrough in wind-powered commercial shipping. Developed for the French shipping company Neoline, the vessel is set to significantly cut carbon emissions and revolutionize sustainable maritime transport, according to Nautical Voice.

Innovative Design and Environmental Benefits

Measuring 136 meters in length and equipped with two massive foldable carbon masts, Neoliner Origin maximizes wind propulsion with its 3,000m² sail area. This advanced design allows the vessel to reduce reliance on fossil fuels by over 80% and slash greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 90%. The ship can carry 1,200 linear meters of cargo, equivalent to 265 twenty-foot containers, making it an efficient and eco-friendly solution for RoRo shipping.

Route and Future Operations

Set for operational trials in spring 2025, Neoliner Origin will sail primarily between Saint-Nazaire, France, and Baltimore, USA, with scheduled stops in Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon and Halifax. With this pioneering vessel, Neoline is setting a new standard in sustainable maritime transport and showcasing the viability of wind-powered cargo ships.
