Another landmark day in Höegh Autoliners’ journey of innovation and sustainability was marked on February 1 with the naming ceremony of Höegh Australis in Manila. This event followed the naming of Aurora #1 as Höegh Aurora last August, along with its two sisterships, Aurora #2 and #3. With the naming of Höegh Australis in Manila, Höegh Autoliners has taken another significant step forward in its green fleet renewal program, reports Höegh Autoliners on LinkedIn.
The Aurora Class: A Green Revolution in Shipping
Höegh Australis, along with the other vessels in the Aurora Class, is a new breed for the shipping industry. The largest and most environmentally friendly car carriers ever built, these vessels set new standards for sustainable deep-sea shipping. With carbon emissions per car transported reduced by 58% compared to the industry standard, the Aurora Class vessels are spearheading the green shift we urgently need in the industry.
A Carbon-Free Future Powered by Ammonia
Höegh Autoliners’ commitment to sustainability goes further. From 2027, the first of its Aurora vessels will be fully powered by clean ammonia, with carbon emissions nearly eliminated. This is a future that will stand as a testament to the company’s commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility.
The company further said that “None of this would be possible without the dedication and expertise of our seafarers, particularly our skilled Filipino crew members, who play a crucial role in powering our vessels and ensuring safe and efficient operations at sea. Their hard work, resilience, and deep maritime knowledge are the backbone of our success.”
“Beyond our crew, we also recognize the invaluable contributions of all our employees in the Philippines, who support our operations in so many ways. Their commitment and passion help drive our mission forward, making it possible for Höegh Autoliners to lead the way in sustainable shipping.”
