Mawani, the Saudi Ports Authority, has announced the launch of five new shipping services offered by Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk to major ports in Saudi Arabia, including Jeddah Islamic Port, King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, and Jubail Commercial Port. This development reinforces Saudi Arabia’s position as a prime regional and international port hub, further improving its competitiveness in the global shipping industry, reports Zawya.

New Shipping Routes to Link Saudi Ports with Major Global Locations

The new services will link the three Saudi ports to several key international ports, including Port Said (Egypt), Port of Tangier (Morocco), Port of Algeciras (Spain), Port of Aqaba (Jordan), Port of Jebel Ali (UAE), Mundra and Pipavav ports (India), and Port of Salalah (Oman). The routes are expected to handle a combined capacity of 19,869 TEUs.

Jeddah Islamic Port at the Heart of the Gemini Cooperation

Jeddah Islamic Port has been chosen as the center of the Gemini cooperation between Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk, highlighting the strategic role of the port in the region. This enhances Saudi Arabia’s position as a leading logistics hub connecting three continents, improves cargo handling efficiency, stimulates trade activity, and boosts economic growth in the region.
