Apple is collaborating with Alibaba to introduce new AI features for iPhone users in China, reports Reuters.
Apple’s New Partnership
Apple’s decision to partner with Alibaba to develop AI features for its Chinese market has lifted investor sentiment. This move comes after months of uncertainty surrounding Apple’s AI strategy in China, where it has been facing increasing competition from domestic players like Huawei.
Apple had initially chosen Baidu as its primary partner, but Baidu’s progress in developing AI models for Apple Intelligence fell short of Apple’s expectations. Following this, Apple considered other Chinese tech giants, including Tencent, ByteDance, and Alibaba, ultimately selecting Alibaba as the most suitable partner.
The companies have jointly submitted the developed AI features to Chinese regulators for approval. The timely rollout of these AI features is crucial for Apple, as iPhone sales during the recent holiday quarter, typically Apple’s strongest period, were impacted by the absence of anticipated AI features. This partnership with Alibaba is expected to bolster Apple’s position in the Chinese market and enhance the competitiveness of its latest devices.
