Hanwha Ocean Secures LNG Carrier Contracts for Hanwha Shipping

South Korean shipbuilder Hanwha Ocean, formerly Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME), has secured a contract to construct two LNG carriers for Hanwha Shipping, its affiliated company. The vessels are expected to be completed and delivered by September 2027,according to Maritime Bell.

Hanwha Shipping’s Role

Established in April 2024, Hanwha Shipping serves as Hanwha Ocean’s shipowning division, dedicated to testing and validating new ship technologies.

Innovation in LNG Carrier Design

At Gastech Houston in September, Hanwha Ocean unveiled its next-generation vessels, including the Ocean 1—an LNG carrier featuring an ammonia gas turbine-based electric propulsion system and advanced eco-friendly solutions.

Commitment to Sustainability

Although specific details of the new LNG carriers remain undisclosed, each vessel is valued at approximately $252 million. The project highlights Hanwha Ocean’s commitment to pioneering sustainable and technologically advanced shipping solutions.
