  • Deltamarin has signed a contract with China Merchants Jinling Shipyard for the design of six upsized Shaper Class vessels.
  • The vessel capacity will increase from 9,300 to approximately 12,100 CEUs, making them the largest PCTCs ever built.
  • These ships will feature dual-fuel methanol engines, enhancing fuel efficiency, reducing emissions, and supporting Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s net-zero goals.

Deltamarin has partnered with China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Jiangsu) Co. to provide comprehensive design and engineering services for Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s upsized Shaper Class vessels. This contract includes six of the fourteen vessels currently on order, with a significant capacity increase aimed at setting new industry benchmarks, according to Deltamarin.

Advanced Fuel Efficiency and Sustainability

The newly upsized vessels will share key design features of the Shaper Class, including advanced dual-fuel engines capable of running on methanol. This innovation will contribute to substantial reductions in fuel consumption and emissions, aligning with global sustainability efforts.

Enhanced Logistics and Delivery Timeline

Designed to meet future global logistics needs, these vessels will offer enhanced ramp strength and increased capacity for high-and-heavy cargo. The first Shaper Class vessels are expected to be delivered in the second half of 2026, while the larger upsized versions are scheduled for completion by late 2027.
