Brazilian state-owned oil firm Petrobras (PETR4.SA) will order four more support ships by 2026, taking the number of new vessels to 48. Chief Executive Magda Chambriard confirmed the order, which is intended to enhance the company’s operations as offshore oil output rises, reports Reuters.
Increasing Output at the Buzios Field
Petrobras anticipates a boom in offshore oil production in the next few years, especially at the Buzios field, where production may hit as much as 2 million barrels per day by 2030. The new support vessels are meant to support this growth and maintain efficient operations as more production units go into operation.
Strengthening Brazil’s Shipbuilding Industry
The expansion of the company’s vessels is consistent. It is because of the President’s plans to boost Brazil’s shipbuilding industry. Through ordering additional vessels, Petrobras is serving to stimulate demand for domestically produced ships and create new employment in the sector.
Vessels in Petrobras’ Expansion Plans
Petrobras had initially projected to charter 44 vessels up to 2026, such as support vessels, platform support vessels, coastal shipping vessels, and gas tankers. With the new announcement, this has been brought up to 48, further supporting the company’s logistics and transport capacity.
Transpetro Chief Foresees Fleet Expansion
Sergio Bacci, who is the CEO of Petrobras’ transportation and logistics unit Transpetro, had earlier signalled that more ships could be included in the company’s plans. His forecast has now been verified with Petrobras’ pledge to increase its fleet even more.
