Maersk and Alibaba have agreed to incorporate Maersk’s Less-than-Container Load (LCL) and Full Container Load (FCL) shipping services into Alibaba’s platform directly. This partnership will ensure businesses, including small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), access transparent and affordable shipping options, reports Seatrade Maritime
Simplified Booking and Real-Time Pricing
With this integration, Alibaba.com business buyers will be able to book shipping services seamlessly without the complexities normally involved. The platform will provide real-time bulk shipment pricing, allowing buyers and sellers to choose Maersk’s shipping and logistics services online in a coordinated way.
Expanding Global Reach and Cutting Costs
The partnership is expected to enhance the orderbook scale and lower logistics costs across key markets in Europe, the U.S., and the Asia-Pacific region. “With the application in various markets of Europe, US and Asia Pacific regions, the cooperation will enlarge the orderbook scale and reduce logistics costs by around 10% to create a win-win logistics ecosystem,” commented Alibaba.com.
