American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) actively participated in the inaugural Seatrade Maritime Qatar, held on February 4-5, 2025, where industry leaders discussed the future of maritime operations, digital transformation, and workforce development.

Gareth Burton, ABS Senior Vice President of Global Engineering, joined the panel discussion “The Digital Maritime Industry – Is It Here, Near and Secure?” to highlight:

  • The role of predictive analytics and digital twins in improving operational efficiency and reducing downtime.
  • The impact of emerging technologies such as IoT, blockchain, AI, and automation in reshaping maritime operations.
  • The importance of real-time vessel performance tracking and improved connectivity for seafarers.

Burton also addressed cybersecurity risks, emphasizing:

  • The IMO’s Cyber Risk Management regulations as part of Safety Management Systems.
  • Challenges with legacy systems and the need for continuous training to enhance digital capabilities.

Jennifer Harrison, ABS Vice President of Talent Solutions, participated in the panel “Building a Local Talent Pool,” focusing on:
