The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) recommends that all shipowners, agents, and masters exercise vigilance for an impending north-east monsoon surge from 19 March to 21 March 2025. Inclement weather, with moderate to heavy showers and gusty winds, is anticipated over this period. For the sake of maritime safety, ships are to be adequately moored and crews should be adequately prepared for emergencies. This warning provides necessary safety precautions and guidelines to assist ships in safely travelling through the inclement weather, reports MPA.
Weather Advisory (19 – 21 March 2025)
Owners, masters, and agents of ships are warned to remain vigilant throughout the approaching northeast monsoon surge from 19 March to 21 March 2025. Moderate to heavy showers and strong winds are anticipated during these dates. Ships should be kept securely made fast for sea at all times to promote safety.
Safety Measures Onboard
- Life-Saving and Fire-Fighting Appliances: All gear should be properly working and as per the International Code for Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) rules.
- Crew Preparedness: Emergency procedures should be known by crew members, particularly during embarkation and disembarkation in rough weather.
- Safe Navigation Practices: Ship vessels ought to have safe speeds and adhere rigorously to the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGs).
