A Yemeni-flagged dhow which was hijacked on March 16th off Durdura, near Eyl in Puntland, Somalia, has been released, reports Safety4sea.
Increasing Incidents
On March 20th, suspected hijackers left a dhow (a traditional sailing vessel) near Dhinowda, south of where the hijacking began.
The following morning, March 21st, the European Naval Force ATALANTA approached the dhow to assist the crew and gather information.
The eight Somali crew members were found to be safe, and evidence of the hijacking was collected.
This is the third piracy-related incident involving a Yemeni fishing vessel. Coupled with the Chinese fishing vessel incident, this brings the total number of closed piracy cases in the area to four in 2025, all occurring within Somalia’s territorial waters.
