The Port of New York and New Jersey reported robust cargo handling in February 2025, processing 699,240 TEUs, a 10.6% increase from the same month in 2024. In total, the port moved 1,419,987 TEUs in the first two months of the year, according to Container News.

Imports Continue Upward Trend

Imports saw a 7.4% year-on-year rise in February, reaching 356,918 TEUs. Combined import volumes for January and February totaled 735,550 TEUs, representing a 9% increase over the same period last year.

Moderate Export Gains and Rail Movement Growth

Exports for February stood at 107,335 TEUs—an increase of 5.6% year-on-year. However, total exports in the first two months of 2025 were 206,041 TEUs, reflecting a 2% decline compared to early 2024.

Additionally, rail transport accounted for 53,673 container moves in February, showing a 1.4% rise over February 2024. Rail volumes from January through February also edged up by 0.2% over the same period last year.
