Tokyo, April 10, 2025 – Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) Group, has successfully obtained Approval in Principle (AiP) from Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK) for its Onboard Carbon Capture and Storage (OCCS) system. The system is designed to capture, liquefy, and store CO₂ emissions produced by ships, contributing to global decarbonization efforts in the maritime sector.

Adapting Onshore CO₂ Technologies for Marine Use

The OCCS system, which is generating attention within the industry, utilizes MHI’s expertise in CO₂ capture technologies developed for onshore applications.
