Chimbusco Pan Nation Petro-Chemical (CPN), a leading Hong Kong-based marine fuel supplier, has officially commenced B30 biofuel bunkering services in Hong Kong, marking a significant step in the region’s maritime decarbonization efforts.
The move follows the IMO MEPC 83 approval, which allows conventional Type I barges to carry biofuel blends of up to 30%. In a statement released on social media, the company called the development a “significant step forward in supporting greener shipping and a more sustainable maritime industry.”
Supporting the Transition to Greener Fuels
Since 2021, CPN has operated a dedicated alternative fuels taskforce, focusing on marine biofuels and other sustainable energy sources. The firm has made considerable progress in the space, beginning with its first ISCC-EU certified B24 biofuel delivery in 2023 to the oceangoing vessel Cape Amal, operated by K Line.
In February 2025, CPN achieved a milestone by completing Hong Kong’s largest single biofuel delivery—supplying 5,500 metric tonnes of B24-LSFO to the vessel XIN LOS ANGELES. The company noted this was also the largest biofuel bunker delivery across all Chinese ports.
Positioning Hong Kong as a Regional Green Bunkering Hub
With the launch of B30 biofuel, CPN aims to support shipping companies in meeting increasingly strict emissions regulations while positioning Hong Kong as a regional hub for sustainable marine fuel solutions.
The B30 biofuel blend comprises 30% advanced biofuel and 70% conventional marine fuel, enabling reduced greenhouse gas emissions without requiring significant vessel engine modifications.
As international pressure mounts to decarbonize the maritime sector, CPN’s investment in alternative fuel infrastructure and bunkering capability is a strategic move aligning with both industry demands and regulatory expectations.
The company said it will continue its focus on expanding green fuel offerings, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable shipping.
