Two Japanese shipbuilding companies have secured contracts to build three eco-friendly stainless steel chemical tankers for Jaldhi Overseas, a Singapore-based firm specializing in vessel chartering and logistics and part of the Bothra Group, reports Offshore Energy.

Expanding Fleet

Singapore-based Jaldhi Overseas, a subsidiary of India’s Bothra Group, is significantly expanding and renewing its fleet with newbuilding orders across various vessel types.

According to data from Greek shipbroker Intermodal, Jaldhi Overseas has placed orders for three chemical tankers with Japanese shipbuilders:

  • Two 26,000 dwt chemical tankers at Imabari-based Asakawa Shipbuilding.
  • One 20,000 dwt chemical tanker at Fukuoka Shipbuilding.

The contract price for these three vessels has not been disclosed. The delivery of these units is scheduled for 2027 and 2028.

Jaldhi Overseas, established in 2004, currently operates a fleet of three stainless steel tankers under the Singaporean flag: the MT Jal Garuda (built 2000), the MT Jal Kisan (built 2002), and the MT Jal Siddhi (built 2006). The newly ordered chemical tankers from the Japanese yards are likely intended to replace these older vessels.

In addition to these Japanese orders, Jaldhi Overseas has a substantial newbuilding program underway:

  • Three 40,000 dwt newbuilding tankers are on order at China’s Nantong Xiangyu Offshore & Marine Engineering, with delivery projected for 2028. These vessels were reportedly resale newbuildings acquired from Doun Kisen, with one being long-term chartered.
  • Five MR (Medium-Range) tankers are expected to be delivered from China’s Yangzi-Mitsui Shipbuilding (Yamic) starting in the first quarter of 2026. The first of these, the Jal Prerana, was delivered in early 2025.
  • Four 93,000 cbm very large ammonia carriers (VLACs), booked in August 2024, are under construction at Jiangnan Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC). These VLACs are scheduled for delivery between the third quarter of 2027 and the end of 2028. The parties also signed a letter of intent for two additional VLACs of the same capacity.

This significant investment in new tonnage across various segments demonstrates Jaldhi Overseas’ commitment to fleet expansion and modernization.
