On April 17, the Hong Kong Police Force and NYK held a joint counterterrorism exercise on board the container ship NYK Daniella in Hong Kong waters. The one-hour exercise mimicked a terrorist boarding operation, reports NYK.

Coordinated Response

Hong Kong special forces boarded the ship, scanned for threats, and secured the vessel. The exercise also included the ship’s crew and management company to try out communication and emergency procedures.

First Joint Drill Since 2011

This was the first such joint endeavour between NYK and the Hong Kong Police Force in more than a decade to reaffirm a common devotion to maritime security.

NYK reiterated that the safe operations of its crew and cargo are always given top priority and that such exercise is essential for ensuring secure worldwide operations.
