HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Unveils New Device To Enhance Cargo Safety On Container Ships

19

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has announced the development of a new device aimed at enhancing cargo safety on container ships. The “Double Head Side Protector” has received Approval in Principle (AIP) from key maritime authorities and promises to prevent cargo loss during rough sea conditions. This move builds upon the company’s commitment to improving container ship safety following its 2022 introduction of a lashing-free container ship.

Innovative Device to Strengthen Cargo Security

The “Double Head Side Protector” is designed to secure containers more firmly by attaching to the lashing bridge independently of existing systems. Installed on the side corners of vertically stacked containers at the ship’s outermost edges, this device aims to prevent container collapse during adverse weather, significantly enhancing cargo safety.

Approval and Industry Recognition

The device received AIP from Lloyd’s Register, Korean Register, and the Liberian International Ship & Corporate Registry. These certifications underline the credibility and safety standards of the new technology, positioning it as a game-changer in the container shipping industry.

Future Testing and Prototype Development

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries is set to move forward with prototype production and real-ship testing to validate the performance of the Double Head Side Protector. The company aims to integrate this technology into its container ships to further reduce cargo loss and enhance safety across the industry.
