The Global Maritime Forum has released its first-ever Impact Report, outlining its efforts in 2024 to drive meaningful progress across environmental, social, and governance (ESG) dimensions in the maritime sector. Founded in 2017, the Forum continues to serve as a platform for collaborative action, bringing together global stakeholders to advance a greener, fairer, and more resilient maritime industry.

Driving Decarbonisation Through Green Corridors and Policy Influence

In 2024, the Global Maritime Forum played a pivotal role in pushing the decarbonisation agenda forward. The report highlights major strides in green shipping corridors, including progress on the Australia-East Asia Iron Ore Green Corridor and the Singapore-Rotterdam initiative. The Forum also amplified industry voices at the International Maritime Organization (IMO), influencing the adoption of ambitious mid-term measures aimed at achieving net-zero emissions.

Advancing Human Sustainability Through Inclusion and Well-being

The Forum’s All Aboard Alliance continued to lead efforts in enhancing seafarer well-being and diversity at sea. In 2024, 12 member organisations participated in the Diversity@Sea pilot project, testing practical approaches to improving conditions for crew members. These efforts reflect the Forum’s broader commitment to human sustainability as a core component of maritime transformation.

Strengthening Transparency and Industry Collaboration

2024 also saw momentum grow around initiatives aimed at boosting transparency and accountability. The report features updates on the Poseidon Principles, Poseidon Principles for Marine Insurance, and the Sea Cargo Charter. Additionally, the Forum’s Annual Summit in Tokyo convened over 200 decision-makers from 160 companies and 29 countries, reinforcing its role as a central convening force for collective action in the sector.

CEO Johannah Christensen reflected with pride on the Forum’s contributions in 2024, stating that the organisation is helping to shape the maritime industry’s transformation. Looking forward, the Forum is set to host its 2025 Annual Summit in Antwerp, continuing to foster collaboration and accelerate progress toward a sustainable maritime future.
