U.S. Coast Guard Rescues 32 from Sinking Boat Near Miami’s Monument Island

On Saturday, May 3rd, 2025, authorities reported the successful rescue of 32 individuals from a boat that was taking on water and sinking off the coast of Miami. The U.S. Coast Guard responded to the distress call near Monument Island at approximately 5:00 PM Eastern Time, according to a post on X (formerly Twitter). The swift action of the Coast Guard ensured the safety of all those onboard the vessel, reports USA Today. 

Dangerous Situation 

Thirty-two individuals were successfully rescued without any injuries from the scene where a 63-foot boat sank, according to the Coast Guard.  

Witnesses who spoke with CBS Miami described the alarming scene, stating that the boat went completely vertical as it began to take on water.

Rachael Miller, a witness, told the station, “Yeah, it was straight up in the water. It didn’t look ordinary, and it’s just very concerning.” On May 3rd, the Coast Guard reported that commercial salvage operations were underway to recover the sunken vessel and that it did not pose a hazard to navigation in the area.
