  • CPN and OOCL Complete Landmark Green Fuel Initiative.
  • B30 Biofuel Cuts Emissions Beyond B24 Levels.
  • IMO Approval Enables 30% Biofuel Blend Delivery.

Chimbusco Pan Nation Petro-Chemical Co Ltd (CPN) and Orient Overseas Container Line Ltd (OOCL) successfully carried out Hong Kong’s first B30 marine biofuel bunkering operation. The crew supplied ISCC-EU Certified B30 marine biofuel to an OOCL-controlled containership, a significant milestone in the city’s clean shipping initiative, reports Chimbusco Pan Nation.

B30 Blend Approved Under New IMO Guidelines

This achievement came after the International Maritime Organisation’s (IMO) MEPC 83 approval for conventional bunker tankers to transport biofuel blends of 30% capacity. The B30 fuel, made up of 30% biodiesel, recorded even deeper carbon emission reduction compared to the B24 blend that had been utilised.

OOCL Steps Up Its Decarbonisation Plan

OOCL undertook its maiden B30 biofuel bunkering operation in Hong Kong under this program, reiterating its focus on decarbonisation. The operation aligns with the company’s aim to embrace cleaner marine fuel solutions.

CPN Exemplifies Green Marine Fuel Leadership

CPN demonstrated its leadership in the shift to sustainable marine fuels. The company made sure that the B30 biofuel complied with the IMO’s high sulphur content requirements, supporting global decarbonisation ambitions and enhancing Hong Kong’s position as a sustainable bunkering centre.

Continued Dedication to Net-Zero Targets

CPN is dedicated to growing the supply of marine biofuels and working with industry partners to enable the IMO’s net-zero ambition. This successful operation demonstrates CPN’s vision to provide sustainable energy solutions throughout the maritime industry.
