The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), as the secretariat for the U.S. Center for Maritime Innovation (USCMI), has unveiled a pathway for U.S. maritime stakeholders to join collaborative efforts focused on advancing marine technology and practices. This initiative is part of a cooperative agreement with the United States Maritime Administration.

Working Groups Focused on Key Maritime Challenges

USCMI has launched Technical and Regional Working Groups that will address four core areas: Maritime Energy, Maritime Operations, Maritime Competitiveness, and Maritime Resiliency. Through these groups, industry professionals can collaborate on solutions to critical challenges facing the U.S. maritime transportation system. Stakeholders are encouraged to visit the newly launched USCMI website to select working groups of interest and subscribe to updates.

A National Platform for Innovation and Collaboration

David Walker, ABS Vice President of Global Government, emphasized the role of the Center as a national resource during this time of technological change. Authorized by the U.S. Congress, USCMI supports research, development, assessment, and deployment of emerging marine technologies to strengthen the maritime transportation system. Maritime stakeholders are invited to contribute to these transformative efforts by engaging with USCMI initiatives.
