China Shipping & Sinopec Suppliers Co Ltd (SinoBunker) has successfully carried out China’s largest marine biofuel bunkering operation to date, marking a major milestone in the country’s efforts to promote greener maritime practices. The operation took place at Ningbo Beilun Third Container Terminal on 2 May, involving the delivery of 4,200 metric tonnes of B24 biofuel.
Record-Setting Biofuel Delivery at Ningbo
The B24 biofuel used in the operation consisted of 24% ISCC-certified biodiesel derived from waste cooking oil and 76% low-sulphur fuel oil, in compliance with IMO 2020 regulations. This operation surpassed SinoBunker’s previous record of 4,000 mt set in February, also with B24 fuel. It was also the company’s first biofuel bunkering in East China.
Smooth, Paperless Logistics Across Customs Zones
Under the supervision of Hangzhou Customs, the entire refuelling process was completed digitally, ensuring efficiency and regulatory compliance. “The whole process from oil extraction to delivery was paperless and very smooth,” said Sun Kejie, Business Manager at SinoBunker Zhoushan. The ship receiving the biofuel was identified by customs as KIRSTEN MAERSK.
Support for Zhejiang’s Green Bunkering Goals
Hangzhou Customs reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the growth of sustainable fuel options in the Zhejiang Pilot Free Trade Zone. Efforts are underway to position the zone as a global hub for bonded bunkering, including fuels such as biofuel oil, LNG, and methanol.
