A new offshore support vessel (OSV) designed to operate in the challenging waters off Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, will soon be under construction in Poland. The project marks a significant milestone for ABS (American Bureau of Shipping), as it will be the first vessel built under ABS Class in Poland in more than a decade.
Advanced Design and Construction in Europe
The vessel is being designed by MMC Ship Design & Marine Consulting Ltd. and will be constructed at the CRIST S.A. shipyard, known for its expertise in building innovative and complex vessels. With delivery expected in 2027, the OSV is tailored to meet the demands of Canada’s offshore energy sector. The CRIST Project Manager emphasized the shipyard’s dedication to delivering world-class, modern vessels, making it a fitting partner for such a critical build.
ABS Brings Expertise in Harsh Environment Operations
ABS will provide classification services for the vessel, drawing on decades of experience supporting ships operating in extreme conditions. As noted by Vassilios Kroustallis, ABS Senior Vice President, the organization has long been a leader in classing offshore workboats, especially those serving in harsh climates like the North Atlantic. ABS’s Harsh Environment Technology Center in Canada will play a key role in supporting this project, ensuring the vessel is built to withstand some of the world’s toughest marine conditions.
