The weekly Ningbo Containerized Freight Index (NCFI), compiled by the Ningbo Shipping Exchange and promoted by the Baltic Exchange, is reported every Friday at 16:00 Beijing time, excluding Chinese holidays. The index provides insight into freight rates along various key shipping routes from Ningbo, according to a report released by the Baltic Exchange.
Ningbo Containerised Freight Index – 16th May 2025
For the week ending 16 May 2025, the index showed slight changes in freight rates across major shipping routes. The rate for the Ningbo–Europe route, which serves the ports of Hamburg and Rotterdam, decreased by 0.78%, dropping from 756.79 to 750.91. The Ningbo–West Mediterranean route, covering Barcelona, Valencia, and Genoa, recorded a minor decrease of 0.39%, with rates falling from 1270.65 to 1265.74. The Ningbo–East Mediterranean route, which includes Piraeus and Istanbul, also declined by 0.79%, with rates moving from 958.72 to 951.15. In contrast, the Ningbo–Middle East route, which serves Dammam and Dubai, experienced a rise of 2.68%, with rates increasing from 951.99 to 977.55.
The index is based on transactional data submitted by several logistics providers, including CCL Logistics Co., Headwin Logistics Co., Ltd, Ningbo E-Union Group of China, Zhejiang Xinggang International Freight Co., Ltd, Perfectever Logistics (Ningbo) Co., Ltd, Ningbo Jet Express International Freight Forwarding Co., Ltd, Dashing International Logistics, Huanji International, De Well Group, Whale Logistics Co., Ltd, and Sinotrans Ningbo Logistics Co., Ltd.
The reported ocean freight rates include various surcharges such as bunker adjustment factor, fuel adjustment factor, low sulfur surcharge, emergency bunker charges, currency adjustment factor, peak season surcharge, war risk surcharge, and transit fees related to the Suez and Panama Canals. However, the rates do not include terminal operation fees, security charges, origin receiving charges, inland point intermodal charges, booking fees, or customs clearance fees.
