Over 38,000 New COVID-19 Cases in Thailand, Doubling Previous Week’s Figures

According to the Thailand Department of Disease Control, COVID-19 cases in Thailand surged to 33,030 last week, with at least 6,000 infections reported in Bangkok, reports Nestia.

Surge In Cases

Thailand’s Department of Disease Control reported a significant increase in COVID-19 cases, with over 38,000 new infections recorded between May 11 and 17. This figure more than doubled the 16,000 cases reported in the preceding week.

Local media outlets indicated that, of these new cases, 1,918 individuals required hospitalization. Tragically, two fatalities were recorded in Sukhothai and Kanchanaburi provinces.

Bangkok emerged as the hardest-hit region, reporting the highest number of cases at 6,290. Other severely affected provinces included Chon Buri (2,573 cases), Rayong (1,680 cases), Nonthaburi (1,482 cases), and Samut Prakan (1,442 cases). The majority of infections were observed among individuals aged 30 to 39.

In response to the escalating situation, the public has been strongly advised to wear face masks and to utilize an antigen test kit (ATK) immediately upon experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, or fatigue.
