This figure remains significantly lower—78% below the pandemic-era peak of $10,377 recorded in September 2021—but is still 60% higher than the pre-pandemic average of $1,420 in 2019. The year-to-date average stands at $2,723, slightly under the 10-year average of $2,897, which was notably influenced by the exceptional rates during the COVID-19 period.

Route-Specific Rate Movements

The latest data indicates varied changes across major shipping routes:

  • Shanghai to Genoa: Rates increased by 4% to $2,841 per 40ft container.
  • Shanghai to New York: A 4% rise brought rates to $4,527 per 40ft container.
