In a landmark move, Saga Shipholding, in collaboration with NYK and Anglo-Eastern, has transferred its full fleet of 32 general cargo vessels to the Bahamas Ship Registry. This transition represents a major achievement for the Bahamas Maritime Authority (BMA) and reinforces the registry’s growing reputation for quality, compliance, and customer-centric service.

A Strategic Partnership with Global Impact

The fleet transfer includes 30 Saga vessels managed by Anglo-Eastern, and 2 additional ships managed by NYK Singapore, all of which are now in the process of registering under the Bahamian flag. Once completed, the move will boost the BMA’s gross tonnage by 1.56%, a significant addition that strengthens The Bahamas’ position in the global maritime community.

Commitment to Technical Excellence and Compliance

Captain Jahangir Hussain, Regional Director (Asia) at BMA, expressed pride in the achievement, stating:

“That they selected The Bahamas, among all other available major registries, speaks volumes about our reputation for quality, responsiveness, and technical excellence.”

Saga’s decision highlights the BMA’s strength in technical service delivery, regulatory compliance, and customer-focused operations. The fleet, known for its excellent port state control records, is being transferred in phases, with the final three vessels expected to join by end of June 2025.

A Vote of Confidence for the Bahamas Maritime Authority

Captain Dwain Hutchinson, Managing Director and CEO of the BMA, called the move a significant endorsement:

“We value our longstanding relationships with both SAGA/ NYK and Anglo-Eastern, and we are committed to delivering the highest levels of service and support to our new clients.”

He also emphasized the value of long-term relationships with Saga, NYK, and Anglo-Eastern, promising continued high-level support and service.

Aligning with BMA’s 30th Anniversary

The fleet transfer comes at a symbolic time, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the Bahamas Maritime Authority. This milestone highlights three decades of providing trusted, high-quality flag services to shipowners across the world.
