  • Seaspan celebrates the grand opening of a new 21,000 sq. ft. Operations Centre at Vancouver Drydock, reinforcing its infrastructure and workforce capabilities.
  • The facility centralizes key operational functions, enhances site infrastructure, and supports workforce expansion amid growing demand for ship repair and maintenance on the West Coast.

According to Seaspan Corp, earlier this week Seaspan’s Vancouver Drydock marked a key milestone with the inauguration of its new two-storey, 21,000 square foot Operations Centre. The modern facility is designed to streamline operations by housing administration, safety, and operations teams under one roof, while offering upgraded amenities such as a lunchroom and locker room for employees.

Major Infrastructure Milestone for Seaspan

Capable of supporting over 300 trades personnel across two shifts, the new centre enhances workplace efficiency and reflects Seaspan’s commitment to building a strong, centralized operations base. As part of the project, significant civil and electrical site upgrades were completed to integrate the new building and improve the surrounding infrastructure.

This development complements Seaspan’s broader investment strategy at Vancouver Drydock, which recently included the acquisition of a third floating drydock. These upgrades aim to bolster Seaspan’s growing ship maintenance and repair operations and will result in approximately 100 new skilled jobs in North Vancouver.

John McCarthy, CEO of Seaspan, highlighted the company’s dual focus on business growth and local job creation:

“By investing in Vancouver Drydock, we’re doing more than just maintaining our status as a leader for ship repair and maintenance here in the Pacific Northwest — we’re also growing our business, and creating new, highly skilled local jobs. This new operations centre and the addition of our new, third drydock represent necessary investments in infrastructure and people that will help us meet the demand of our thriving ship repair industry.”

Paul Hebson, Vice President & General Manager, emphasized the importance of the new centre to the marine industry:

“The grand opening of our new Operations Centre marks an exciting chapter for Seaspan’s Vancouver Drydock. This building represents a better and more efficient work environment for our team and is another step forward to ensure that we are positioned to support the growing West Coast marine industry. Whether it is our local SeaBus, BC Ferries, a fishing vessel, or an emergency repair for a vessel in distress – we play a vital role in BC’s marine ecosystem.”
