- Brunvoll has signed its largest contract to date with Samsung Heavy Industries for the supply of 45 thrusters and advanced control systems across nine DP2 shuttle tankers owned by Tsakos Energy Navigation Ltd.
- The vessels, chartered to Transpetro—Petrobras’ logistics arm—will each be equipped with five Brunvoll thrusters and the company’s BruCon propulsion control and condition monitoring systems.
- This major contract strengthens Brunvoll’s leading position in the shuttle tanker market and ensures long-term utilization of its production facilities and after-sales services.
Brunvoll has announced a landmark agreement with Samsung Heavy Industries to deliver a complete thruster and control system package for nine DP2 shuttle tankers being built for Tsakos Energy Navigation Ltd. This order marks the largest in Brunvoll’s history in terms of both size and value, involving the delivery of 45 thrusters in total.
Enhancing Offshore Precision and Reliability
Each shuttle tanker will be outfitted with three retractable azimuth thrusters and two tunnel thrusters, supported by Brunvoll’s integrated Propulsion and Thruster Control system (BruCon PTC) and Condition Monitoring System (BruCon CMS). These vessels, designed for offshore crude oil transport, will operate under long-term bareboat charter agreements with Transpetro, a logistics subsidiary of Petrobras.
A Competitive Win in a Strategic Market
Kåre Øyvind Vassdal, CEO of Brunvoll Group, expressed pride in winning such a competitive tender:
“In a market where all major propulsion suppliers compete intensely, securing this contract underscores the strength of our solutions and our team’s dedication. Beyond the immediate value, this deal will ensure full capacity at our factories for the coming years and keep our after-sales division engaged across the vessels’ lifecycle.”
Building on Long-Standing Partnerships
The contract further cements Brunvoll’s presence in the shuttle tanker segment. Tsakos currently operates four shuttle tankers, with three more under construction at Samsung Heavy Industries. The addition of nine vessels brings the Tsakos shuttle fleet to sixteen—each powered by Brunvoll thruster systems.
Anders Ulvestad, Senior Bid & Sales Manager at Brunvoll, emphasized the strategic importance:
“Our consistent delivery of reliable, high-performance solutions has earned us growing market share in this demanding sector. Shuttle tankers are vital to the global oil supply chain, and Brunvoll is proud to play a key role in supporting their safe and efficient operation.”
Gratitude to Global Partners
Ulvestad also extended appreciation to Samsung Heavy Industries, Tsakos, and Transpetro for their trust in Brunvoll, and acknowledged the support of Brunvoll’s international sales and service representatives: Tachyon Corporation in South Korea, Alpha Marine in Greece, and Macnor in Brazil.
Commitment to Innovation and Service
This milestone contract not only reinforces Brunvoll’s reputation for quality and precision in marine propulsion systems but also highlights the company’s commitment to long-term partnerships, innovation, and lifecycle support for complex offshore vessels. With construction underway, Brunvoll’s systems will soon power the next generation of shuttle tankers operating across some of the world’s most challenging marine environments.
