- Order placed: 180,000 cbm LNG Carrier from Hyundai Heavy Industries
- Delivery: Q4 2027 under a long-term charter
- Fleet growth: 10 LNG carriers now under construction for Purus
- Efficiency: Dual-fuel engine with boil-off gas utilization
- Emissions: Up to 25% lower CO₂, ~85% less NOₓ, negligible SOₓ
Purus has ordered a 180,000 cbm Liquified Natural Gas Carrier (LNGC) from Hyundai Heavy Industries in South Korea. The vessel is expected to be delivered in Q4 2027 and will enter into a long-term charter agreement with a leading global energy company.
This latest order brings Purus’s LNG carrier newbuilding program to a total of ten vessels, all being constructed at Hyundai Group-affiliated yards, strengthening the company’s position in the liquefied gas shipping market.
Advanced Dual-Fuel Propulsion
The vessel will be equipped with a dual-fuel engine system, designed to efficiently utilize natural gas boil-off as fuel. This configuration enables a 25% reduction in CO₂ emissions and approximately 85% lower NOₓ, along with negligible SOₓ output and reduced particulate matter, supporting compliance in Emission Control Areas (ECAs).
Future-Ready Design
Built to exceed IMO’s EEDI Phase III carbon intensity standards, the ship will feature a twin-skeg, highly optimized hull and performance-enhancing technologies to maximise fuel efficiency and propulsion.
Supporting the Clean Energy Transition
Purus highlights this order as part of its broader mission to facilitate the clean energy transition by investing in next-generation tonnage that can safely and efficiently transport lower-emission fuels across the globe.
