On 5 June, PSA International (PSA) and the Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation (GCMD) formalised a five-year strategic partnership aimed at fostering collaborative initiatives to reduce emissions across the global maritime and port ecosystems. With this move, PSA becomes the first port operator to join GCMD as a strategic partner, marking a significant step toward integrating sustainable practices at major port nodes worldwide.

Driving Decarbonisation Through Port-Side Innovation

Through this collaboration, PSA will provide essential port-side perspectives that will help GCMD and its partners in trialling innovative low- or zero-carbon fuels and technologies. These trials are critical to shaping viable decarbonisation pathways within the broader maritime value chain, especially as the industry faces growing pressure to meet global climate targets.

Strategic Alignment with PSA’s Sustainability Vision

PSA International Group CEO Ong Kim Pong highlighted the significance of this alliance by noting the increasing urgency to decarbonise the maritime sector. He stated that PSA, as a leading global port operator and a trusted logistics partner, is in a unique position to drive sustainability by leveraging its global network of strategic hubs. This network is central to the company’s “Node-to-Network” strategy, which focuses on enabling cleaner energy use and enhancing operational efficiencies across interconnected ports and supply chains.

Future Outlook

This partnership positions PSA at the forefront of the maritime industry’s energy transition, reinforcing its role in pioneering future fuel adoption and sustainable practices. With the combined expertise of GCMD and PSA’s operational footprint, the collaboration is expected to generate impactful solutions that accelerate maritime decarbonisation efforts globally.
